Her brother’s best friend is not only the hottest man Michelle Dennis has ever seen, he’s the reason she left town eight years ago. Of course he’s the one waiting at the airport. Worse, he made sure they’re staying in the same house.
Alex Stafford is expecting to pick up his friend’s kid sister, not a full-fledged bombshell. He was planning to apologize for their past, but the feelings he had years ago come roaring back…and this time, there’s no denying them.
Keeping his hands off is a test he’s bound to fail—especially when they’re stuck in close quarters. But falling in love with Michelle, living in her world, isn’t an option for a guy like him. And remembering that will save them both a lot of heartache…
2.5 out of 5 stars
This is the first ever Alice Gaines book that I've read, and unfortunately I didn't love it as much as I thought I was going to. Most of the time, I love a good friends to lovers story, but this one didn't work for me.
Early on the the story we learn that Michelle had feelings for Alex when they were teenagers, but he rejected her and said hurtful things to her. She left a week after the incident and hadn't been home in 8 years because she was still hurt by that night, but has to return for his parent's anniversary party. She starts by telling herself that she is not going to let herself want Alex but changes her mind almost right away. She decides instead that she would like to have a friends with benefits situation with him for the week instead.
After the week comes to it's end they both have feelings for each other but Alex pushes her away, again. All because he has dyslexia. What? Alex builds up his disability in his head so much that its really crazy. The pro football star that can have whoever he wants is scared to date Michelle because he feels as if she is smarter than him...newsflash, she probably is, but NOT because you have dyslexia. The woman is a neuroscientist that is working on a drug to help Parkinson's! She's smarter than anyone I know personally, but doesn't mean she would be better than someone because of it. Sometimes people are smarter than others, it happens, get over it. If you can't tell, it really annoyed me. Everyone is "smarter" at their own thing.
I also was a little annoyed at the proposal to fix things at the end. That is not a solution to a problem! Another one of their problems that was left unresolved was that he is a pro football player who lives quite a bit away from her and obviously will be traveling and have a busy schedule, she is also going to be extremely busy with her new job and teaching...sooo what did they figure out?? They got married but we have no idea where or when they are going to see each other. Ehh... sorry guys, this one just wasn't for me.
