What's coming up next month

Wednesday, August 31, 2016

I've officially had this blog for 2 months now and I'm going to try a couple new things in September.  I've joined a couple Blog Tours that will be hosting giveaways throughout the month, so maybe you can win a book on your "to read list!  You can never have too many books!  I also thought it would be fun to list a few books that I will be reviewing in the next couple weeks so you have an idea of what to expect.

Synopsis:
Sometimes in life, choices just aren't part of the plan. When fate interferes and bulldozes right over you.

That's how I felt the first time I saw him. Standing in my kitchen, soaking wet, hotter than a man has the right to be, and holding a knife.

Declan's cold, stone-cold. I can't help but want him. His presence stirs up some raw emotion within me. He seems so...alone. But is he here to kill me or save me?

He's the one man I should never want...and the one I can never forget.

Synopsis:
Asher Ruggiero, a partner at Adrenaline Kick Adventures, is living a lie. As a control freak whose big Italian family thinks he’s straight, Asher likes his encounters concise, dirty, and discreet—until his company’s new rafting guide walks into work, dripping with brooding, intense sexuality. Sawyer Stevens is a mystery man with secrets and rough edges, and he makes Asher want to get to know him inside and out.

Ever since the tragic death of his parents, Sawyer has dedicated himself to the rush of adrenaline that comes from pleasure and pain. Moving from one guy to another, hiding when life gets too complicated—that’s all he can handle. So why does Asher make him long for something lasting and honest, when the gorgeous geek can’t even be true to himself? Sawyer wants to give Asher his heart, but he just doesn’t know how. After all, a life without integrity is a life without passion—and that’s the one thing Sawyer craves.

Synopsis:
It's typical of video game programmer Josiah Simmons to be the last one on the plane on the way to the biggest meeting of his career. Though he's (mostly) coping with his ADHD, he can't handle another distraction. But he also can't ignore his rugged seatmate—especially once he learns the military man's a fan of his game.

Ryan Orson refuses to let his severe injuries pause his career as a navy SEAL. He's got hours of grueling physical therapy ahead of him, and no time for anything that might get in the way of his return to active duty. But that doesn't mean he's above a little first-class flirtation with geeky-cute Josiah.

When a delay strands the pair in St. Louis, they agree to share a hotel room and a night of gaming. Neither expects their new connection to move to the next level in the light of day. Opposites may attract, but is this game over before it's even begun?

Synopsis:
After a tragic accident, Lincoln West’s dreams of making it big as a guitarist fell apart. Unable to play music, he’s battling a hopeless downward spiral, and takes his friend’s offer to stay at their beach house for the summer. While at an open mike night at local bar Off Beat, he locks eyes with a busboy who doesn’t make Linc feel so broken anymore.

Emmett Westmore lives for the anonymity of busing tables in his aunt’s quirky bar where no one pities him for the fire that killed everyone he loved. He blames himself for the fire, and he doesn’t want anyone to see him—except for Linc. Emmett’s walls drop when he’s around the gorgeous blue-eyed guitarist, but he has a secret that could destroy his budding relationship with Linc.

Both Linc and Emmett are looking for a way to live again…will they let their fears control them or take a chance on something real?

Synopsis:
Piper Dawson has spent a lifetime living by other people’s rules.
She’s worked hard to get what she wants—a residency at her first choice hospital—and no one will ever tie her down again, not even her severe yet incredibly sexy supervisor, Dr. Alexander “Ace” Lennox.

Ace is done with love. He’s had his heart shattered, and he never wants to go there again. But when he’s inexplicably enticed by the sexy, tattooed woman with blue streaks in her hair and a perpetual smile on her lip, he figures that maybe he can keep it to just sex.

The problem? He thrives on control, and Piper dances just around the edges of it.

But when they're together, control is the first thing to go...

Synopsis:
Folks in town call him a monster—say he’s dangerous. But I know him simply as Elijah Hays, the quiet, gentle giant who works with the horses on my ranch. I can feel him watching me, that steady intense gaze making me crave things I don’t quite understand, burn in a way that frightens me. He’s always kept his distance…until that night.

I remember him coming to my rescue, me following him into the barn, giving him his first taste of a woman, and his inexperienced yet barely reined touch turning me to ash.

Now all I can think about is exposing the dark desire I see deep inside him—having him turn those dark desires on me. That low, gritty voice rasping orders in my ear. Those huge, rough hands holding me down when a storm blows in.

I want his surrender. His control. I want to break him…and have him break me…

My Review:
I originally heard about Sloane Kennedy from her "The Protectors" series and fell in love with her writing, so when I saw she had another series I knew I had to read through that one as well.  For some reason I skipped the first book in the series, but this book can be read as a stand alone so I didn't feel like I was completely lost.

My heart for Rafe and all of the things he went through in his life.  He still had a lot of anger and resentment with his brothers over his past and felt more and more conflicted as the story continued.  Because of the way he grew up, he has intimacy issues and doesn't know how to be with someone just for his own pleasure.

Cade and Rafe had a lot of chemistry from the moment they met, but neither one of them trust each other.  Cade is working for Rafe's brothers, so he often feels torn between loyalty to them and his attraction to Rafe.

This book repeatedly ripped my heart out and made me feel devastated for all of the characters involved, but it DOES have a HEA so no worries!  Now I have to read the next in the series about Ren because I need to know what's going on with him... I'm hooked!

**Trigger Warning: If you have a problem with mentions of past rape and/or violence then this may not be the book for you. **

My Rating:
5 out of 5 stars

My Review:
Wow!! I definitely wasn't prepared for the heat in this book but I LOVED it! This is the first Bink Cummings book I've ever read but I definitely want to read more after this one.  This is a sorter novella length story at 187 pages but it never felt too rushed to me.  The chemistry between the two MCs is smoking hot.

Daddy kink is not my favorite usually, but I really enjoyed the way this one was done. I love a good smutty book and this one had some really sweet moments as well. I loved these two together! That epilogue <3 <3 <3 Sweet little Sophie. I've actually read this story 3 times already because I couldn't get enough of these two!

P.S. I really REALLY hope Bonez gets his own story

New Release Review: Twisted Up by Erin Nicholas

Wednesday, August 24, 2016

Title: Twisted Up
Author: Erin Nicholas
Series: Taking Chances, #1
Genre: M/F Romance
Publisher: Montlake Romance
Publication Date: August 23rd 2016
Find It Here: Goodreads, Amazon, Barnes & Noble

Synopsis:
Avery Sparks is a master at controlling chaos—and she gets plenty of opportunities as fire chief and head of emergency management in her hometown of Chance, Nebraska. The only thing she can’t seem to control are her feelings when she’s around Jake Mitchell, the man who was her first everything the night of their high school graduation. But Jake was so quick to leave Chance—and Avery—behind that she swore she’d move on.

While Avery’s job is to minimize drama, Jake embraces the chaos of an emergency. After enlisting in the Army National Guard, Jake became a nationally recognized leader in disaster recovery. Yet a life on the road has left him restless. So when a class-four tornado wreaks havoc on Chance, he’s eager to return home—and to the woman never far from his mind.

Now, Avery and Jake must team up to help their hometown weather a siege of violent storms. But it’s clear to them both that nature isn’t the only force they’ll have to reckon with. Will Avery and Jake’s whirlwind love affair be an all-new disaster—or can they recover from their stormy past to build a future together?

My Rating:
4.5 out of 5 stars

My Review:
I should probably start off by saying that Twister is one of my favorite movies of all time, so the second I saw a romance that involved tornadoes I knew I had to have it. I'm also a big sucker for 2nd chance romances. This is the first book by Erin Nicholas that I've ever read and I definitely want to try more from her after reading this one. Twisted Up is the first book in the "Taking Chances" series. I can't wait to read the next ones!

Avery is a fire chief in the small town of Chance, Nebraska. She had a tough family life growing up and when the people she thought cared about her seemingly turned their backs on her she began very independent. She's had a hard time letting anyone close and only has 2 people she would call her friends. Her attraction to Jake frustrates her because she feels like he also abandoned her.

Jake is a cocky self-assured guy that loves pushing Avery's buttons. He's got a huge hero complex and can't stand the idea that Avery doesn't fall all over him like other girls he's been with.

The two of them had great chemistry together and couldn't keep their hands off of each other. When the secrets of what happened to Avery in the 10 years since they saw each other last come out, I was happy to see Jake's protective instincts kick in. He was a man that knew how to fight for his girl. I thought Avery came off as a little uncaring or even clueless at times but I guess it could be her defense mechanism.

Release Day Review: Body Shot by Kelly Jamieson

Tuesday, August 23, 2016

Title: Body Shot
Author: Kelly Jamieson
Series: Last Shot, #1
Genre: M/F Romance
Publisher: Loveswept
Publication Date: August 23rd 2016
Find It Here: Goodreads, Amazon, Barnes & Noble

Synopsis:
Former Navy SEAL Beck Whitcomb left a world of privilege to prove he could make his own way. Money, mansions, expensive cars—none of it could heal the loss of his older brother, or buy his parents’ love. Now, after using his trust fund to open the Conquistadors tequila bar with his brothers-in-arms, Beck has it all: good friends, fine liquor, and hot hookups. When it comes to women, commitment’s not his thing—until he gets a taste of the pretty professor who walks into his bar . . . and winds up in his bed.

Hayden Miles knows all too well that emotional decisions can lead to heartbreak, and nothing screams “bad decision” like a playboy bartender with inked biceps and a wicked smile. Still, their chemistry is off-the-charts explosive—and Hayden knows her chemistry. For once, this good girl longs to let loose. But is she willing to risk the pain to quench her thirst? With the promise of more on the table, Hayden’s eager to believe . . . before she misses her shot.

My Rating:
5 out of 5 stars

My Review:
I've read quite a few of Kelly Jamieson's books and I've loved every single one of them. Body Shot is the first in her new series, "Last Shot". Jamieson has a perfect balance of romance and sizzling bedroom (or office, shower, changing room etc.) scenes in her books that makes her one of my favorite romance authors.

Hayden is a biochemist and is very focused on her work to find a cure for cancer. Cancer took both of her parents when she was just a teenager, and left her aunt and uncle to care for her. Her aunt recently broke her hip so now she has that to focus on now too, leaving her too busy to have fun or date. She is not spontaneous at all. She likes to have things perfectly planned out. When she was younger she was teased because she was always shy and more interested in her books than the things other kids were into.

Beck is a former Navy SEAL that owns a tequila bar with two of his friends. He is all about fun. He doesn't take himself or relationships seriously, choosing a love em and leave em lifestyle. He comes from a very wealthy family, but they are not close. He inherited money from his grandfather when he passed but he doesn't live extravagantly.

I loved these two together because they were such opposites: the serious professor with the thrill seeking bartender. It was so much fun watching Beck get her to live a little bit and try some new things. Their "no strings attached", "just for fun" sexual relationship was super hot and I thought the feelings between them built at a nice pace and didn't feel forced.

As a side note, I REALLY hope the next book in the series is Hayden's best friend and Marco.... Somethings going on there, I know it! lol

ARC review: Wrong Question, Right Answer by Elle Casey

Monday, August 22, 2016

Title: Wrong Question, Right Answer
Author: Elle Casey
Series: The Bourbon Street Boy, #3
Genre: M/F Romance
Publisher: Montlake Romance
Publication Date: August 23rd 2016
Find It Here: Goodreads, Amazon, Barnes & Noble

Synopsis:
As a member of the Bourbon Street Boys private security firm, Antoinette “Toni” Delacourte is one strong woman, but despite her reputation for being tough as nails, she is haunted by her past mistakes. Now they’re catching up to her, and throwing her for a loop.

Ten years ago, Toni kissed Lucky, her brother’s best friend. Worried it would break apart the group she’d come to see as family, she walked away—straight into the arms of Charlie, and an abusive relationship.

For the past decade she’s tried to keep her feelings for Lucky platonic—he’s her friend, her colleague, and he’s got his own past to deal with. Free of Charlie but unable to shake his memory, Toni finds herself feeling vulnerable and unable to deny her attraction to Lucky any longer.

She’s always thought that kiss was her first mistake, but now she’s wondering whether the real mistake was running away.

My Rating:
2 out of 5 stars

My Review:
I seem to be in the minority here but I just couldn't get into this one. I thought the two MCs relationship felt really forced. I didn't feel any sort of chemistry or real emotion between either of them. I was hoping once he moved in with her there would be some cute moments with them together or we would see them falling for each other but it never really happened. I didn't really care for many of the other characters either: Toni cried for almost the entire book, Lucky constantly acted like a kicked puppy, and May drove me insane. I don't remember May being quite so annoying in her book. I was originally really looking forward to Toni's story because she seemed like a bad ass in the previous book, but in this one she was just a bitch to everyone and then cried about everything. I understand she was pregnant and supposed to be emotional but I think it was overdone.

Release Day Review: Comfort Food by Sierra Riley

Friday, August 19, 2016

Title: Comfort Food
Author: Sierra Riley
Genre: M/M Romance
Publication Date: August 19th 2016
Find It Here: Goodreads, Amazon

Synopsis:
“I can't help unless you let me.”

“I might be alone, but at least I'm safe.”

Martin Painter has been a recluse since his parents died when he was seventeen. Sure, he has money and a sprawling house in an upscale neighborhood, but material things can't patch the holes in his heart. When his sister drags him to a charity auction, the last thing he expects to win is a date with a handsome stranger. He can feel the attraction starting, but it's pointless, isn't it? He's better off alone. He's too awkward for a platonic "date," let alone real love.

“Do you ever wonder if you made a wrong turn somewhere?”

Charity owner Travis Cole loves his work even if he misses the world of haute cuisine. But his charity is hemorrhaging money. He throws an auction to scrape together extra funds, and up on the auction block? Cooking lessons and a dinner with himself. He never thought the winner would be a man. And stranger still, he never expected to care so much about the soft-spoken, sad-eyed loner who won him.

“We've both got too much to lose, don't we?”

Martin isn't sure he's capable of love anymore. Travis isn't sure he's capable of loving a man. But they can't deny it: there's something between them as powerful as gravity, even if it's just a desire to help one another let go of the past. While Travis teaches Martin how to cook, can they teach each other to be happy?

My Rating:
4.5 out of 5 stars

My Review:
Sierra Riley's books keep getting better and better!  I really loved this one.  I would say this is an opposites attract, GFY (gay for you), kind of romance.

Martin is a nerdy recluse that suffers from an anxiety disorder.  He works from home and rarely leaves the house.  He often holds back things he wants to say because he overthinks it too much or he freezes altogether.  Travis is a trained chef that now runs a charity for the needy.  He is a very caring person and once he realizes that Martin suffers from sever anxiety, is very understanding has a lot of patience.

This is one that I would definitely call a slow burn type of romance because they really take their time getting to know each other, and also because Travis is still questioning his sexuality.  The "mystery" or conflict to this story was a little obvious from all of the foreshadowing, but I really didn't mind.

New Release Review: Worked Up by Tessa Bailey

Wednesday, August 17, 2016

Title: Worked Up
Author: Tessa Bailey
Series: Made In Jersey, #3
Genre: M/F Romance
Publisher: Entangled: Brazen
Publication Date: August 1st 2016
Find It Here: Goodreads, Amazon, Barnes & Noble

Synopsis:
Factory mechanic Duke Crawford just wants to watch SportsCenter in peace. Unfortunately, living with four divorcee sisters doesn’t provide much silence, nor does it change his stance on relationships. But when a fellow commitment-phobe stumbles into his life, getting him good and worked up, he can’t deny his protective instincts.

Samantha Waverly’s brother just put her in an impossible situation. The only way out? Marry huge, gruff, gladiator look-alike Duke—for show, of course. She doesn’t make promises—she knows too well how easily they can be broken—and this is no exception.

As the blistering attraction between them grows, the lines around the no-strings relationship blur. But Duke and Samantha’s marriage is only for show…or is it?

My Rating:
5 out of 5 stars

My Review:
This is actually the first Tessa Bailey book I've ever read, and I am very happy to say it won't be the last!  I absolutely loved this one!  Worked Up is the third book of Tessa Bailey's Made In Jersey series.  It can be read as a stand alone but you do see characters from the first two books.  After reading this one, I am definitely going to go back and read the other two, while anxiously awaiting the next in the series.

Samantha is a commitment-phobe that has some emotional baggage from her past.  She is awkwardly adorable at times and has a habit of trying to break the ice with really cheesy jokes. Sam is also an artist, so the artist in me was really excited to read about her art.

Duke is seriously swoon worthy and so perfect.  He is the perfect mixture of gruff dirty talker and sweet caretaker.  I'm pretty sure he is my new book crush.  I really loved that he wasn't described as this perfectly chiseled model type.  He was the average looking guy with the beginnings of a beer gut, which I thought made it even better.

The  chemistry between the two of them was off the charts!  Tessa Bailey definitely knows how to write sizzling sex scene.  I also LOVED Duke's speech towards the end.  It. was. SO. Good!  I can't say enough good things about this one.

New Release: Tied Score by Elia Winters

Tuesday, August 16, 2016

Title: Tied Score
Author: Elia Winters
Series: Slices of Pi, #2
Genre: M/F Romance
Publisher: Pocket Star
Publication Date: August 15th 2016
Find It Here: Goodreads, Amazon, Barnes & Noble

Synopsis:
Geeky meets kinky in this second too-hot-to-handle novel in the Slices of Pi series by RITA-nominated author Elia Winters, which follows the erotic adventures of the employees at PI Games, a gaming company based out of sultry Florida.

Iris Parker never planned on ending up in HR because, let’s face it: HR isn’t the most glamorous position in the world. She took a comfortable job and always planned on leaving when something better came along, but before she knows it, she’s thirty and the HR director for PI Games. Even though she likes her coworkers, there’s no excitement in the job for her, and Iris is worried that she’ll lose her spark. Luckily, Iris’s romantic life provides some thrills—living the confirmed bachelor life, when she wants her bed warm, she can find company, and in her sights at the moment is the cute pastry chef at her favorite bakery.

Owen Hobbs has noticed the gorgeous businesswoman making eyes at him when she comes in for coffee and sweets, but he’s not the type of guy who dates much anymore. Unfortunately for him, it didn’t take long in his sporadic dating history to learn that most women aren’t interested in taking charge in bed, which is what he really craves. Working early mornings at the bakery keeps him from the nightlife where he might meet someone who can fulfill his needs, so he’s resigned himself to fantasies and pretty much given up on the dating scene altogether. But when Iris’s advances become too much to resist, Owen finds himself revealing his desire to be sexually dominated...the only question is, is she the right woman for the job?

My Rating:
3 and a half out of 5 stars

My Review:
This book was a little different from the typical dom/sub romances that I've read before.  In this one the man wanted to submit to a dominant woman in the bedroom.  I had never read a story where the roles were reversed so I was intrigued.  I have to say, I really liked this one.

Iris is a bit of a commitment-phobe and strictly sticks to one night stands and no emotional connection. She has a very private personal life and doesn't like to share any information about herself or her past. When she first sees Owen she is instantly attracted to him and asks him to meet her one night for some mutual satisfaction.

Owen is a workaholic that owns his own bakery.  It's been a long time since he has been with anyone so he agrees to meet up with Iris.  Owen is used to giving orders and being the boss at his job so what he really craves is a dominant woman that would take charge in the bedroom.  After their first time together Owen admits that he wants to submit in the bedroom and Iris is intrigued.  She's never had that kind of control and decides that she wants to keeps trying new things together.

The chemistry between the two of them was really hot and made for some really sizzling scenes.  I just wish that there was a little more emotion between the two of them.  Iris and her commitment issues made it really difficult for me to be able to think of them as a true couple.  She drove me a little crazy with her hot and cold temperament. The ending was also a little abrupt for me.  I would say this one is more of a HFN then HEA type of romance.

Release Day Review: Adulting 101 by Lisa Henry

Monday, August 15, 2016

Title: Adulting 101
Author: Lisa Henry
Genre: M/M Romance
Publisher: Riptide Publishing
Publication Date: August 15, 2016
Find It Here: Goodreads, Amazon, Barnes & Noble

Synopsis:
The struggle is real.

Nick Stahlnecker is eighteen and not ready to grow up yet. He has a summer job, a case of existential panic, and a hopeless crush on the unattainable Jai Hazenbrook. Except how do you know that your coworker’s unattainable unless you ask to blow him in the porta-potty?

That’s probably not what Dad meant when he said Nick should act more like an adult.

Twenty-five-year-old Jai is back in his hometown of Franklin, Ohio, just long enough to earn the money to get the hell out again. His long-term goal of seeing more of the world is worth the short-term pain of living in his mother’s basement, but only barely.

Meeting Nick doesn’t fit in with Jai’s plans at all, but, as Jai soon learns, you don’t have to travel halfway around the world to have the adventure of a lifetime.

This is not a summer romance. This is a summer friendship-with-benefits. It’s got pizza with disgusting toppings, Netflix and chill, and accidental exhibitionism. That’s all. There are no feelings here. None. Shut up.

My Rating:
4 out of 5 stars

My Review:
This is the first book I've ever read by Lisa Henry so I had no idea what to expect. Let me just say, I am very pleasantly surprised. Adulting 101 had me laughing from the very beginning all the way until the end! I am definitely going to have to read more of her books.

I absolutely LOVED Nick. He is so scatterbrained, adorably awkward, and has no filter at all. Some of the things that came out of his mouth had me laughing out loud while my husband gave me funny looks from across the room. Nick is an 18 year old recent high school graduate who doesn't know what he wants to do with his life, but he DOES know that he doesn't want to be a virgin before he heads to college, and that he also can't stop staring at Jai's butt. After propositioning Jai at work one day the two begin a friends-with-benefits arrangement.

Jai was an absolute sweetheart and was extremely patient with Nick and his rambling. He is a little older than Nick at 25 years old, and he works summers so he can travel the world for 9 months out of the year. He has also never had a serious relationship, but after spending time with Nick he starts feeling differently.

The only criticism I have for this one is that I would have like a more solid HEA. I would say this one is a strong HFN ending. There is a lot concerning their future that is unresolved at the end. I also would have liked to see Nick finally sit down with his dad for a talk to clear the air. All that being said, this was a very enjoyable and laugh out loud kind of romance with a few steamy scenes mixed in.

Author: Sierra Riley
Genre: M/M Romance
Publication Date: August 5th 2016
Find It Here: Goodreads, Amazon

Synopsis:
"With just a few words, you can change someone's life for the better."

"I became a teacher to help people, not to deal with office politics."

Professor Daniel Talbot learned the hard way that the cost of taking risks—both personal and professional—is just too high. But when his best friend’s wedding makes him realize just how lonely he is, he gives in to one night of reckless passion with a younger man.

"Don't waste your time on me, Professor. I'm the resident screw-up."

As a recovering addict, Matt Graves is no stranger to bad choices… he just never thought a harmless one-night-stand would end up being one of them. But sometimes one taste is all it takes to become hooked.

"You make me feel like I can be something better. Like I can do something better."

When Matt realizes the public speaking class he’s taking is Daniel’s, both men are forced to confront their lingering attraction. Daniel can’t nurture any kind of relationship with Matt, but he also can’t resist teaching a student who desperately needs to be heard. Learning to love, on the other hand, could destroy them both. Can Daniel and Matt overcome their pasts to create a future neither one is sure he believes in?

4 out of 5 stars

My Review:
**Triggers - If you don't enjoy books that talk about drugs or that involve drug use then this may not be the book for you. **

I swear, Sierra Riley's books keep getting better and better!  Riley's books are on my "auto-buy" list.  The really great thing about her books is that every single one of them is available through Kindle Unlimited.  I love it!

Matt is a pill addict that has been sober for over a year but continues to struggle with it every day.  He has extremely poor self esteem and low self worth.  He feels like a screw up and is still unsure what he wants to do with his life.

Daniel is a college professor that is still in the closet at work due to bad past experiences.  He struggles with depression and guilt from a loss in his past.  He has a big heart and wants to help Matt but he lets his fears get in the way of having a real relationship with him.

I loved these two together.  Both of them made me mad and I wanted to shake them at times, but I still thought they were great characters.  I also liked that the way Matt's addiction was handled.  It was very realistic.  I have friends and family that struggle with addiction, so when I read Matt's perspective of how he felt when he was on the pills, it ripped my heart out.  I really felt for him.

There’s just one problem. Kinni’s allergic to spontaneity, and the only thing predictable about Price is his unpredictably. There’s no way they’ll last beyond the week, and Kinni’s going to make sure of it…

My Rating:
4 out of 5 stars

My Review:
I went into this one unsure of if I was going to like it or not because I felt like I read a similar story before, but I ended up enjoying this one a lot.  This is the first Boone Brux book that I've read and I would definitely read more from her.  This is the second book of her "Wedding Favors" series but can be read as a standalone.  I really enjoyed the characters in this one so I want to go back and read the first one soon!

Kinni is an extremely OCD person who has trouble having fun.  She is often described as being way too serious.  He friend asks her as a favor to her to let lose and have some fun for a week, which is where Price comes in.

Price is a fun-loving ladies man.  He's been attracted to Kinni since he first saw her but she's always turned down his advances, and frankly, acted like she wasn't too fond of him.  When he overhears Kinni's friend asking her to let lose, he decides that he is the man for the job.  I thought he was so sweet to Kinni.  He was always trying to help her.

I liked how there was more to these characters than meets the eye.  Kinni sees his sports car and knows he owns a few motels and automatically assumes he comes from money.  He actually worked his way up to where he is on his own.  Price expects Kinni's parents to be just as serious as she is....and we'll just say he is also really surprised.

They had fun playful banter between the two of them and a ton of chemistry.  This was a super quick read but I didn't feel as if it was too rushed.

Release Day Review: The Best Friend Bargain by Robin Bielman

Monday, August 8, 2016

Title: The Best Friend Bargain
Author: Robin Bielman
Series: Kisses in the Sand, #3
Genre: M/F Romance
Publisher: Entangled Publishing
Publication Date: August 8th 2016
Find It Here: Goodreads, Amazon, Barnes & Noble

Synopsis:
Olivia Lincoln has a plan guaranteed to get her life back on track. A plan that involves her best friend, Danny. And he’s on board, too…until she blurts out that they’re engaged and expecting a baby, and the news spreads like wildfire.

The problem? Danny doesn’t do marriage. Or family. And everyone knows it, including Olivia.
As irritated as he might be, protecting Olivia is what Danny does. But put best friends under one roof, add house rules begging to be broken, accidental nakedness, and pancakes in bed, and what started as a marriage between friends threatens to turn into the real deal…which would ruin everything.

My Rating:
2.5 out of 5 stars

My Review:
I didn't enjoy this one as much as I expected to. Normally I loved friends to lovers romances, but I couldn't get into this one. Judging by the ratings/reviews on Goodreads, I am in the minority so don't let my review turn you off of it completely.

I thought Olivia came across as a very selfish and self centered person. She completely disappears out of her best friend's life for 6 six months and then shows up out of the blue, pregnant, and wanting him to marry her so she doesn't have to go through it alone. Really? Apparently it's completely acceptable for her to ask him to put his dating life and sexual needs on hold permanently and help her raise another man's child because god forbid she deal with her own consequences of her actions. Then for over half of the book she is STILL thinking about her ex that dropped her when she told him she was pregnant.

I didn't dislike Danny but he just seemed way too quick to do anything Olivia requested. It was not believable at all, in my opinion. What guy is going to agree to a sexless marriage and to raise another man's child just to "help her out"? Of course they do fall into bed together eventually but I didn't feel the spark between the two of them that led to love. Danny's repetitive freak outs over his eye condition got a bit old too.

I didn't like how the story jumped in time a lot either. There were a few times in the story when they just had a very important talk or argument and then it jumps ahead a few weeks.

Kindle Unlimited Reads: Stray Home by Edith Scott

Title: Stray Home
Author: Edith Scott
Genre: M/M Romance
Publisher: LoveLight Press
Publication Date: July 26th 2016
Find It Here: Goodreads, Amazon

Synopsis:
“It’s always been you … because you belong with me.”
When a stray Golden Retriever puppy steals the bacon right off his table, hunky army veteran turned carpenter Mike Sudbrock takes his new furry friend to the vet. The last thing he expects is for the doctor to be David Parker, his childhood friend and first love.

“All I know is, when we’re together, I know where I belong.”
David’s father forced him into the closet years ago, and now David’s a divorced dad to twin girls. But after an apartment fire leaves him homeless, Mike offers him a place to stay ... and it’s soon clear that the pull between them is as strong as ever.

“If I love him, that means I want what is best for him, not what is best for me.”
Overwhelming chemistry isn’t enough to make things easy; David is still caught between his family, his career, and his feelings for Mike. Is he destined to lose the best thing that ever happened to him -- again? Or will their shared "puppy love" blossom into something much more?

My Rating:
3 out of 5 stars

My review:
Anytime I see a romance with a puppy on the cover I know I have to read it. lol! This is the first book I've ever read by Edith Scott and there were parts that I really liked and some things that I didn't.

David is a vet who lets his dad rule his entire life, even at 29 years old. He's known since he was young that he was gay but his dad forbid him to have a relationship with his best friend Mike, because it would look bad for his reputation. I was hoping and hoping to see David take his stand against his dad but it never happened. I was a little disappointed in that. He DID make some changes in his life to get out from under his dad's thumb, however.

Mike is an army veteran turned carpenter that even after 10 years has still been holding a flame for David. When Mike finds a puppy outside of his house and takes them to the vet (who happens to be David) he is shocked, but quickly recovers. They start hanging out again and they still have the same chemistry they had before.

I was confused as to why David never gave him a real heartfelt apology for breaking his heart years before. It felt very skimmed over. I also had a hard time believing that Mike would still want to be with him when he pulls the same thing again. What really drove me nuts is that David never once fought for Mike this whole time. It came off feeling very one sided.

Release Day Review: When Only Cupcakes Will Do by Daisy James

Thursday, August 4, 2016

Title: When Only Cupcakes Will Do
Author: Daisy James
Genre: M/F Romance, Chick Lit
Publisher: Carina Press
Publication Date: August 4th 2016
Find It Here: Goodreads, Amazon, Barnes & Noble

Synopsis:
The delightfully heartwarming romantic comedy from Daisy James!
When life gives you lemons, make lemon drizzle cupcakes…

Lucie thought that proposing to her boyfriend in Tiffany’s would be the best day of her life. Until he said no. In just a few seconds, her whole world is turned upside-down! And when she accidentally switches cocoa powder for chilli powder at work, she finds herself out of a job, too…

Baking has always made life better in the past, but can Lucie really bake her way to happiness? Starting her own company, selling cupcakes out of an old ice cream van might just be the second chance that Lucie needs!

Of course, she never expected to find love along the way…

My Rating:
3 and a half out of 5 stars

My Review:
This is the first book I've read by Daisy James and I really enjoyed it. I will say that reading this book gave me an insatiable craving for cupcakes, so consider yourself warned: You may gain weight while reading this book. (just kidding!)

After Lucie's boyfriend turns down her wedding proposal, she loses her job, and becomes a social media sensation (and not in a good way); she is left feeling a little lost. After some soul searching she decides to create her own cupcake business. Her business sounded like it would be so much fun. For being a shorter story, I thought this one was dragging in a few places, but that could just be me.

Lucie has a real passion for baking and you really feel how much she loves it by the way she talks about it. At the beginning of the story she is a bit of a neat freak and thought she had her whole life planned out. I found Lucie to be a little frustrating at times, to be honest. She was so fixated on Alex even though it was abundantly clear that he didn't care about her at all. It got to be tiring.

I really loved Ed! He got Lucie to be a little more adventurous and to chase her dreams instead of settling. You could definitely feel the chemistry between the two of them, but this one is a "clean" romance, so no explicit scenes.

New Release Review: Rogue by Michele Mannon

Wednesday, August 3, 2016

Title: Rogue
Author: Michele Mannon
Series: Deadliest Lies, #1
Genre: M/F Romance
Publisher: St. Martin's Press, Swerve
Publication Date: August 2nd 2016
Find It Here: Goodreads, Amazon, Barnes & Noble

Synopsis:
My lover is dead.

And they think I killed him.

I'm running rogue. Hell bent on both revenge and redemption. Whatever it takes, I'm going to finish a job that began nine months ago. An unauthorized assignment that turned horribly, devastatingly wrong. My miscalculation. My fault. My heart left shattered into incomplete pieces which will never wholly fit back together again.

But first I have to outsmart my former organization and the hired killer they've sent after me; a killer who knows my every move, who’s been inside my head, my heart, and my dreams.

I'm the traitor, Kylie. The rogue mercenary. Jaxson's newest assignment. And this is our love story.

My Rating:
4 out of 5 stars

My Review:
This is the first book that I've ever read by Michele Mannon and it definitely won't be my last! I couldn't put this one down! I ended up devouring it in one sitting. This is the first of a new series called Deadliest Lies and can be read as a standalone.

Kylie is determined to get revenge for her father's murder so she joins Hayden's group of mercenaries. Another reason she joined with them is because she needs the money to pay for her mother's expensive healthcare cost, due to her cancer. Kylie is hot-headed and often lets her temper get her into trouble.

Jaxon is smitten with Kylie from the very beginning. He's got a playboy reputation but is determined to show her that with her it would be different. He continually used his charms to try and win her over. He is also fiercely protective over Kylie.

The chemistry between the two of them was sizzling. There wasn't a ton of steamy scenes in this one but I thought that worked better with the seriousness and suspense being the focal point. Since this is a book about a group of mercenaries there is a good deal of violence in this, so if that isn't your thing then this is probably not the book for you. There was nothing that I would call over the top tho.

This story alternates between present day and the past when they first met at "The Ranch". The author always made it clear at the beginning of the chapter if it was present day or in the past, which I liked, so there was no confusion. I did feel like the constant back and forth pulled me out of the story a bit a times. Every time one story line was getting really good the chapter would end and we would jump back or forward. It built suspense but also drove me a little crazy.

Aiden Caldwell is an Armani ad come to life—a billionaire CEO who’s just adopted a dachshund from the rescue center where Piper volunteers. But can Piper ever love, and trust, a man who has never learned to open his heart—or has she bitten off more than she can chew?

My Rating:
3.5 rounded up to 4 stars

My Review:
I have to admit, the first thing that caught my attention was the title of the book.  When I saw it and actually looked at the cover I knew I wanted it.  Not only do I love books that include stories that include animals, but I loved the humor in the title.  This is the first time that I've heard of Casey Griffin, but I am excited to pick up her next book in this series.  This is the first book in a new series and can be read as a standalone.

Piper is an extremely hard worker that is trying to put herself through school to be a veterinarian.  She is working 3 jobs at the beginning of this story: taxi driver, pizza delivery driver, and singing telegram person.  She also volunteers at a dachshund rescue in her spare time, with plans to be the vet for them when she finishes school.  After being fired from 2 of her jobs in one day, Aiden hires her as his dog walker.  Piper likes her independence and has trouble accepting help from others.

Aiden was a little tougher of a character to figure out.  At first he is very closed off and ran hot and cold for a good part of the book.  He was a very serious business man, but when he was around Piper she had a way of getting him to lighten up and have fun.  He's a very caring and sweet guy.

The mystery aspect of this story keeps the story moving really well, but the ending seemed a little unbelievable to me.  That's probably my biggest gripe about this book.  Other than that, I really loved the light-hearted humor and innuendo throughout the story.  Add in the fact that there were Pride & Prejudice, Pretty Woman, and The Notebook references and I'm a pretty happy girl.

Release Day Review: Fool Me Once by Katee Robert

Monday, August 1, 2016

Title: Fool Me Once
Author: Katee Robert
Series: Foolproof Love, #2
Genre: M/F Romance
Publisher: Entangled Publishing
Publication Date: August 1st 2016
Find It Here: Goodreads

Synopsis:
They say opposites attract, but this is just ridiculous.

Aubry Kaiser doesn’t like people—actually, that’s not right. She loathes people. With her crippling anxiety, there’s no way she can demo her favorite video game at a convention with five thousand other people. Maybe if she brings someone to act as a shield…

But the only person available is the sexy cowboy she can’t stand.

Quinn Baldwyn is in a mess of his own. He’s been dodging his wealthy family’s matchmaking attempts—and life advice—for years, but with his sister’s wedding on the horizon, he needs of a shield of his own.

He and Aubry can barely hold down a civil conversation, but in bed…fireworks. And the closer they get to Quinn’s sister’s wedding, the more he realizes that he might actually like Aubry.

Now it’s up to him to convince her she might actually like him, too.

My Rating:
5 out of 5 stars

My Review:
Aubry isn't exactly what you would call a people person.  She has social anxiety and can't handle crowds.  She's a hard core gamer and one of the best, so she gets invited to attend a convention to test out the latest version of her favorite game.  Her snarky attitude is just a defense mechanism to cover up her insecurities.

Quinn is your typical sweet-talking cowboy.  He can charm anyone he talks to...except for Aubry.  They are like oil and water.  They love getting under each other's skin.  Quinn needs a date for his sister's wedding, so he doesn't have to deal with the women his wealthy parents are throwing at him.  Aubry's friend comes up with the idea for Quinn to be Aubry's shield at the convention, and for Aubry to be his shield at the wedding.

I loved how sweet and caring Quinn was with Aubry's panic attacks and social anxiety issues.  There were a lot of super steamy scenes between the two but I thought the author did a great job of letting the feelings build between the two of them.  They were such complete opposites that it was interesting seeing them together.  I have to say I absolutely loved that sweet epilogue too.  So perfect!
