Book-inspired Artwork by Julie Maguda @ happilyeverchapter.blogspot.com - Daenerys Jon Snow Game of Thrones

Almost two weeks ago I asked you all if I should start sharing my artwork on my blog, and I got an overwhelmingly positive response, so I decided to go for it!  Eventually I would like to try to get my art printed on mugs, pillows, totes, etc, and try to sell it in an Etsy store.  I think people may enjoy something like that rather than just having the option of buying the original or print.  What do you guys think?

I actually painted these ones a couple years ago now.  They were some of my very first attempts at watercolor painting.  Usually I paint everything with acrylic but I decided to challenge myself and try something new.

I decided to share two paintings of my favorite characters from Game of Thrones.  My first painting that I'm sharing is Daenerys.  I wish I would have thought to take some progress photos...

The second painting I tried from Game of Thrones is Jon Snow.

Here are a couple progress shots:

One of my other favorite characters from Game of Thrones is Tyrion but I haven't tried a painting of him yet.

For now I am going to keep my art posts to once a month, but eventually I may try bi-monthly posts.  Next month I am going to be sharing two of my paintings inspired by The Notebook by Nicolas Sparks.  I was thinking about sharing some of my comic character paintings after that..??

What do you guys think?? Who is your favorite character from Game of Thrones?

  1. Beautiful work! I think getting your stuff printed onto actual useable things that people can buy is a good idea. Obviously copywrite issues would restrict what you could do but I'm sure you've looked into that. Ooh favourite characters from Game of Thrones? That's tough because I have many so I'll narrow it down to who I want to be alive at the end-Tyrion, Dany, Jon and Jaime. Tyrion is probably my favourite as I love his humour and rants!

    1. Thank you so much! Those 4 are my favorites too! I can't pick just one. lol! Dany's story annoyed me for a while after Khal Drogo but I like what she's doing now.

  8. I've not actually watched or read GoT, but Julie. You are so good at portraying people especially the expressions. Love your idea of an Etsy shop. I go on there frequently for gifts for a couple of friends and family because they enjoy the whimsical or one of a kind crafted gifts.

    1. Thank you so much, Sophia Rose! I think I may give the Etsy shop thing a try. I'm a stay at home mom right now so we could use a little extra money here and there, and I would be doing something I really love. I love the things I see on Etsy, but for some reason I always forget about it when it comes time to buy friend's gifts. lol! Hope you have a great week!

    1. Thank you so much Greg! I like the Daenerys one a little better than the Jon Snow one too. I feel like men are much harder to paint. I'm not sure why. lol!

I can't decide who my favorites are. I really love Tyrion, Jon, Arya, and Daenerys...and Jamie...haha! I will just keep listing them all.

  10. MATE, THESE ARE SO AMAZING!! I wish I had artistic talent. I actually want to learn how to watercolour, but I don't think I'll ever be as great at painting portraits as you are (even on your first attempts!)

My favourite character in GoT has to be Arya.

    1. Thank you so much! <3 In my opinion, I think watercolor is a lot harder than acrylic painting. I feel like I have more control over the acrylic paint, and watercolor is very unforgiving. If you make a mistake with acrylics, you can just paint over it and try again. With watercolor you can't do that. I hope you do give painting a try! It's so relaxing.

Arya is really great! I really hope she's one of the last people standing because I don't want them to kill her off! lol

  14. I haven't watched GoT, but these are so pretty! And the fact that you painted with watercolor makes it even more impressive since, with the little bit of painting I've done (which wasn't even remotely as good as your work, btw), watercolor was impossibly hard to work with. Can't wait to see more of your work!

    1. Thank you so much! <3 Watercolor is definitely difficult. I'm used to acrylic paint. If you make a mistake you can wait for it to dry and then paint over it to fix it. lol! Watercolor is very unforgiving, so you can't really do that. Thanks so much! Hope you have a great week!

  18. You are so amazingly talented! I love Denaerys' eyes :) Have you seen Society6? You can upload your artwork and sell it on all sorts of printed things (mugs, shirts, towels, phone cases, tote bags, pillow cases, etc). I have a few things up there myself, but it's all computer-based art. I think you could get quite the following! You can set your own price, and Society6 just takes a fixed amount out of every purchase (based on the item type) and you get the rest. It's some pretty easy passive income if you're doing this kind of artwork already just for fun anyway :) And it's SUPER easy to use!
