Three friends. Two love stories. One convention.
Charlie likes to stand out. She’s a vlogger and actress promoting her first movie at SupaCon, and this is her chance to show fans she’s over her public breakup with co-star Reese Ryan. When internet-famous cool-girl actress Alyssa Huntington arrives as a surprise guest, it seems Charlie’s long-time crush on her isn’t as one-sided as she thought.
Taylor likes to blend in. Her brain is wired differently, making her fear change. And there’s one thing in her life she knows will never change: her friendship with her best guy friend Jamie—no matter how much she may secretly want it to. But when she hears about a fan contest for her favorite fandom, she starts to rethink her rules on playing it safe.
Queens of Geek, an empowering young adult novel by Jen Wilde, is all about fandom, friendship, and finding the courage to be yourself.

I can't handle how much I ended up loving this one! The nerd in me was so happy the entire time I read Queens of Geek. All of the dorkiness aside, this was a really great story about three friends trying to figure out the next step in their lives.

Queens of Geek is a wonderfully diverse story told in alternating point of views, following three best friends as they visit their first SupaCon event. Charlie is a bisexual Asian-Australian who is a rising movie star and popular Youtube vlogger. Taylor is on the autism spectrum, and has social anxiety and panic attacks. She is the ultimate fan girl and regularly blogs about her experiences. Jamie is the only one of the three that we don't get to see his point of view, but he's still one of the main characters. Out of the three characters, I feel like I connected with Taylor the most. I suffer from anxiety and the way the author had Taylor explain it was so real:

"Everything feels like I'm on a stage, spotlight on me, all eyes on me, watching, judging. Like I'm one second away from total disaster. It's invisible, it's irrational, it's never-ending. I could be standing there, smiling and chatting like everything is totally fine, while secretly wanting to scream and cry and run away. No one would ever know. In my mind, no one can hear me scream. I hide it because I know it's not understood or acceptable. So here I am, hiding it. Standing in a toilet stall, trying to remember how to breathe."

I loved watching both Taylor and Charlie grow as the story went on. Taylor had obvious issues to deal with involving her social anxiety, but she also had a lot of worries about her future and the change that was going to be coming when they went to college. There were so many times that I wanted to stand up and cheer for her when she put herself out there and did things that terrified her. She was such an incredibly strong character, and I loved her, awkwardness and all! Jamie had so much patience with her and was seriously the cutest.

"Can we just be weird together forever."

Charlie was hurt badly in a recent breakup and wasn't sure if she was ready for the spotlight to be on her personal life again. I really loved that she was strong when Reece showed up, and for the most part didn't let him get to her. Charlie and Alyssa were adorably shy at first and danced around each other a bit, but I loved that it didn't feel like a forced attraction. The chemistry was definitely there.

This was a great light-hearted read with lots of super adorable kissing scenes. If you are looking for some steamy scenes, then this may not be the book for you. There is a scene where a character confirms that they had sex but we don't get any details. This was a really sweet read that I am definitely going to read again and again.
