Stacking the Shelves & Sunday Post

Saturday, March 11, 2017

I am linking up again this weekend with Tynga at Tynga's Reviews for Stacking the Shelves and Kimberly at Caffeinated Book Reviewer for Sunday Post to share all of the books I picked up lately, share my posts for the past week, and also share what's coming up soon!

Bought:
None this week

From Giveaway:
Before I Fall by Lauren Oliver & Poster signed by the cast of the movie
(Thank you Sara! from Sincerely, Sara)

Life lately:
I tried not to pick up many more books this week because last week I went a little ARC crazy. lol!  I'm still working on catching up...and I think I will be for a while.  I've fallen behind with writing blog posts too.  I still have a full week worth of posts written for next week but that's about it.  Except for the books that I read way in advance (I schedule those closer to their publication date).  I just have to get my butt in gear and play catch up for a while because I've been slacking!  One thing I feel like I haven't been slacking on too much is keeping up with replying to blog comments and visiting other blogs.  I feel like I've been doing pretty well with that, so that's something! lol

I've been thinking about this idea for a while and I'm still not sure if I want to do it or not so I figured I would ask you guys!  I've mentioned once or twice before that I'm a portrait artist, but I've never posted any of my art on my blog because I was keeping this place strictly books.  Well, now I'm wondering if I should do a once a month post sharing my artwork.  I think it would light a fire under my butt to actually nail down time to create something new.  What do you guys think??  Here are some of my paintings, just in case you were curious:
It's really only a hobby of mine right now but I would really love to try to enter my art into an exhibit, do an art fair one day, and maybe even start an Etsy page.  Just to give it a try.  I also paint animals, but I don't really do landscapes or abstract or anything else. I was thinking about creating some fun book character themed bookmarks one day, but I haven't given that a shot yet.  I don't know, it's just an idea I've had bouncing around in my head for a while now.

Coming up next on the blog:
Traveler by L.E. DeLano - Review & Giveaway
Queens of Geek by Jen Wilde - Review & Giveaway
Books On My Spring TBR List
Hard Wired by Megan Erickson - Review

  3. I'm not really an art kind of person but your work is really good Julie. If you like the idea of putting some art on your blog you should do it...it is your blog so you get final say! I used to like art at school but had no talent for it!

    1. Thank you so much! I know not too many are into art so that's why I was a little leery about including it on my blog, but I may end up doing it just once a month. That way it doesn't seem like it's taking over. Hope you have a great week!

    1. I was pretty good about books this week but only because I got way out of hand last week. lol! I have a lot that have a publication date around the same time so I'm going to be doing a lot of reading coming up here soon. And thanks, I think I will start doing a monthly art post. It's been a while since I've created anything and if I make it a monthly feature I feel like it will motivate me to do it. Hope you have a great week too!

  7. Oh, I am feeling how you feel right now with my own blog. I was so organized, but now I need to play catch-up to get back ion track. Your art is beautiful. You should definitely do a monthly feature and set up an ETSY store as well. If you wanted to do book themed art, Bookmarks (with drawings of characters) would be something to sell. Have a wonderful week.

    1. I was doing really well with writing posts and scheduling early and then I don't know what happened. I guess I got lazy. lol! I'm hoping to catch up a bit this weekend. I have all next week's posts written, but I would like to have a little more written in advance. At one time I had a month in advance. That was nice! lol. And thanks so much! I think I am going to start sharing my art on here more, and eventually create an Etsy page. I started one a couple years back but never really marketed it so it didn't go anywhere. Hope you have a great week too!

    1. Thank you so much! Painting is a great stress reliever for me. Portraits can be difficult because you have to get the details right or it won't look like a person. You have a little more leeway when it comes to landscapes, I think. No one will notice too much if you don't get a tree or stone to look absolutely perfect. I do love landscape art, I just can't really do it. lol! I'm not sure why.

Hope you have a great week too, and happy reading!

I'm starting to get behind on my reading goals and it's bumming me out. I think the books I'm reading a longer than last year so maybe that's part of the issue
