Author: Charlie Cochet
Series: THIRDS, #1
Genre: Paranormal, Suspense, MM Romance

When homicide detective Dexter J. Daley’s testimony helps send his partner away for murder, the consequences—and the media frenzy—aren’t far behind. He soon finds himself sans boyfriend, sans friends, and, after an unpleasant encounter in a parking garage after the trial, he’s lucky he doesn’t find himself sans teeth. Dex fears he’ll get transferred from the Human Police Force’s Sixth Precinct, or worse, get dismissed. Instead, his adoptive father—a sergeant at the Therian-Human Intelligence Recon Defense Squadron otherwise known as the THIRDS—pulls a few strings, and Dex gets recruited as a Defense Agent.

Dex is determined to get his life back on track and eager to get started in his new job. But his first meeting with Team Leader Sloane Brodie, who also happens to be his new jaguar Therian partner, turns disastrous. When the team is called to investigate the murders of three HumaniTherian activists, it soon becomes clear to Dex that getting his partner and the rest of the tightknit team to accept him will be a lot harder than catching the killer—and every bit as dangerous.

This series came highly recommended to me by multiple people so I decided to check it out.  This was the first book by Charlie Cochet that I've gotten to read, and I really loved it.  I will definitely be reading more from this author.  I'm a big fan of shifter novel, suspense, and kick ass agents, so I couldn't put this one down.  I ended up having to read it all in one sitting.  I don't want to give too much away from the plot so I won't go into that too much, but the story moved at a great pace and I was never bored.

I really love both of the MCs, but I can't handle how much I loved Dex!  He was a whirlwind everywhere he went.  He brought a lot of much needed positivity and laughter to the Destructive Delta unit.  He's witty comments and banter with not only Sloane but every other character had me smiling and laughing out loud many times.  Sloane was your typical brooding alpha male type.  He was the leader of Destructive Delta and was still healing after suffering the loss of his partner.  Dex drove him absolutely crazy at times but he also grew on him as the story went one.  There were only a couple steamy scenes between the two of them, but I loved the chemistry between them.

The big issue I had with this one was the mystery aspect.  I ended up taking away a whole star just for that.  The bad guy was way too obvious the entire time and was in plain sight.  I like a great mystery so I was a little let down.  Other than that I really enjoyed this one a lot...  Although I have to admit that I had no idea that there were so many books in the series (9 so far!), and that the first 4 books are mostly about Sloane and Dex and their building relationship before it finally moves on the some of the secondary character's stories. basically I will probably have to buy the rest of the series because I need to know what happens. lol!  There is still a lot of mystery surrounding Sloane's character that I can't wait to find out.

  1. Ooh I hadn't heard of this one but I will have to add it to my TBR. It sounds great! I need to meet Dex. Sucks about the mystery being predictable though. I hate when that happens, but it also happens a lot.
    Great review!

    1. This is one that was recommended to me by a lot of people so I had to check it out. I ended up really enjoying it. Oh my gosh, Dex was the best!! If you get a chance to check it out, I hope you love him too! The mystery "bad guy" was a little disappointing but I enjoyed the rest of it enough that I still bought the next book in the series. lol Thanks Nick!

  2. Mmmm, that's the downside of mystery novels - often they are too obvious to me (the mystery). It kind of kills the excitement. BUT, who doesn't love a great romance? Especially when there is some really steamy chemistry. I'm glad you enjoyed this book overall, Julie!

    Have a wonderful week. =)

  3. Long series, but I have heard great things too so I need to check this one out! Thanks so much for sharing - I'm glad it was a winner for you, for the most part. Bummer the mystery wasn't that great, but oh well! the characters sound awesome.
