Life lately:
I feel like I've been in a "funk" lately.  I don't have any motivation to read at all.  I tried rereading a book that I loved earlier this year and I still really enjoyed it, but as soon as I finished it I was back to the same "blah" feeling.  I don't know if it's stress, the sinus infection that attacked me out of nowhere, or what the issue is.  I struggle with anxiety and insomnia and I have been having a rougher time with them both lately so that probably has a lot to do with it, along with the gross sinus funk.  I haven't been around visiting/commenting on other blogs either much these past couple weeks, and I feel awful about that.  If I continue in this funk I've been in, I may take a little blogging break...or at least cut back.  I typically blog 6 days a week, so maybe if I cut that in half it would be easier??

On a happier note, I mentioned last week that my grandmother was in the hospital;  Well she is doing much better now.  They released her and she is currently staying with my aunt (who happens to be a nurse practitioner) so she's in good hands.

In other news, I am going to be picking up a couple hours here and there at one of my previous employers.  I really loved the people I worked with and the patients that came to visit so I am really excited to go back.  Also a little nervous tho, because it's been almost 5 years since I worked there! haha!  Maybe this will help pull me out of my funk.

I also got a bit carried away with books this week.  I had an Amazon gift card so I tried to do some retail therapy. lol!

  1. I'm sorry things have been tough for you Julie, I can understand how things can build up and you don't feel like doing anything. But I hope things get better for you soon and you're able to find something to get you out of your slump! I have heard great things about Eliza and her Monsters!

    1. Thanks, Jasprit. I've heard a lot of really great things about Eliza and her Monsters too. It sounds like one I would really love. I've read quite a few books this month but I still haven't gotten my motivation back. I don't get it. Maybe it's just time for a little break..or to cut back a litte.

  2. I'm glad to hear your grandmother is doing better.

I ended up taking last week off due to Irma and it helped A LOT. I was considering taking the rest of the month off to but that week seemed to be just what I needed.

I used to blog 7 days a week for years but now I do 3 and that seems to work for me.

I want to read Eliza and Her Monsters too.

    1. Thanks so much!

I am thinking about taking some time off but we'll see if that ends up happening. lol! I'm really stubborn sometimes. Maybe I'll start a new painting. That helps pull me out of funks.

Yeah, I think I may just need to cut back a little bit. 6 days a week is a little too much, I think.

Eliza and her Monsters sounds so good. I can't wait to check it out

  3. Yay for Eliza & Her Monsters. I adore that book so much. I hope you love it as much as I did.
I'm sorry to hear about all the anxiety, and blah feelings, Julie. I think cutting down blog posts to 3 times could be really helpful. I know it helped me a few years back. I am happy to hear about your grandma. I hope you have a better week ahead! <3

    1. So glad to hear that you enjoyed Eliza and Her Monsters! It sounds like one that I would really love and I've heard so many great things about it.

I think there was just a lot of things going on at once, on top of me being sick so it was a bit too much. I've been doing really good with my anxiety before this. Exercising regularly seems to really help a lot, so I've figured out a schedule. And thank you, my grandma still isn't feeling great but I feel better knowing that she's staying with my aunt. Thanks, Nick!

  4. That's great news about your grandmother and good luck with your job. You book buys were great. Eliza was awesome. I love the Flat-Out books, and I have been wanting to read the RR short (but I sort of never feel satisfied with shorts). I know the 3:AM books are a little cheesy/soapy, but I like them for exactly that reason. I know exactly what I am getting with them, and sometimes that is just what I want.

    1. Thank you so much! So glad to hear that you enjoyed Eliza! I'm really excited about that one. I really enjoyed Flat-Out Love so I can't wait to read things from Matt's perspective this time around. I'm a little worried that I'm not going to like the RR book because novellas always feel too rushed to me, but we'll see how it goes. I own most of the books in the 3AM series but I actually haven't gotten to start any of them yet. lol! I plan to binge read the series next year.

  5. I have found cutting back on blogging a bit has helped me but a break can also do the trick. Glad your grandma is doing better. Good luck getting back to working. Great haul!! I picked up Eliza too. Have a great week!

    1. I'm not sure what I'm going to do but I am considering both options. I'm going to be working now and busy with Paige's school stuff so maybe I should cut back a little bit. A blog break probably wouldn't be a bad idea either. Sometimes it's nice to get a break and come back fresh. Thanks, Grace! I hope we both end up loving Eliza!

  7. I know exactly what you mean, about being in a reading funk. I really want to gush about and love all of these Fall '17 books, but I can't even bring myself to read them! My reading total this year is going to be shameful, compared to last year or the year before. -_- A blogging break is definitely a good idea!

Good on you for not picking up any review copies though. I'm glad your grandmother is feeling better!

I hope you enjoy all of your new books! Have a lovely week, Julie. =)

    1. I have a feeling my reading total for the year is going to be way down too. Last year I read 280-something...I don't think I'm going to even be close to that. lol! I'm fighting to make it to 200 this time around. I've read some great books this month but I still feel like I'm in a funk. I may try another painting soon. That helps sometimes.

Yeah, I'm trying really hard not to pick up too many ARCs. Especially if I'm going to be cutting back on blogging or taking a break.

Thanks, Alyssa! Hope you have a great week too!

  8. Good luck with the funk. I was in a bit of a reading slump and books just weren't working for me. It happens. Hope you feel better about reading soon. And that's great news about your grandmother- glad she's doing well!

Kindred Spirits and Eliza and her Monsters both sound great. I especially want to read more Rainbow Rowell.

    1. Thanks, Greg! I've read a few really great books this month already but I still feel like I'm in a funk. I think I'm going to try painting to help get me out of it.

I'm really excited about the books I got this month. I love Rainbow Rowell, so I'm excited to give that one a try.

  9. Sorry to hear you're in a bit of a funk. Sometimes cutting back on blogging does help because you can figure out why you're in a bit of a funk. I warn you, though. I've been on holiday and so not commented on anything for a little while and boy the catch up kills you. Glad to hear your grandmother is doing better.

You've got some good new books. I've recently got Eliza and her Monsters and I need to find time to read it as I'm so excited to pick it up. And Kindred Spirits! That's such a good Rainbow Rowell book even if it's only short. It's adorable and I loved it.

    1. Thanks, Becky! Yeah, the catch up is kind of why I'm trying to just muscle through the funk. It's so hard to catch up and get back into the swing of things after time off.

I've heard so many great things about Eliza and Her Monsters. It sounds like one that I'm going to love. I love RR so I'm really looking forward to picking up Kindred Spirits too. I'm glad to hear that you loved it!

  10. Hope you enjoy Eliza and her monsters - I've heard good things about that one :)

Yay for your grandmother feeling better! I'm so glad to hear it.

I know what you mean about being in a reading slump and struggling to blog, etc. I definitely recommend a break; I also used to - and sometimes still do - post every day of the week, and it's just draining. A break is a good idea.

    Have a lovely week, Julie!

Thank you so much! It makes me feel better to know that my grandma is staying with my aunt.

I'm not even sure if my funk is a reading slump or not. I've read a few really great books already this month. I think it's just my mood lately. I'm pretty sure I'm going to take a mini break and start a new painting. Painting always cheers me up.

Thanks, Amy! I hope you have a great week too!

  11. That's great news about your grandmother!! :)

And good luck on going back to work! I'm sure once you get back in the swing of things you'l feel way less nervous.

I also bought Eliza and her Monsters this week! Everyone I know seems to LOVE it and the price was appealing so I thought why not. Curious to see what you think of it!

Also, funks are the worst :( I think sometimes the best thing to do is take a step back and do something else you enjoy, like watch a tv show. If it makes you feel better I've been on a "meh" book trend for the last week, and it's really bringing my reading spirits down.

Have a great week, Julie! :)

    1. Thanks, Lauren! She's still not feeling too well, but she's recouping at my aunt's house now.

I went back for my first day of work yesterday and it was really nice. I was pretty nervous at first, but I seem to have fallen right back into it.

I hope we both end up really loving Eliza and her Monsters. It sounds like one that I'm going to really love.

Funks are a huge bummer. I think I am going to step back a little bit and try to finish a new painting. That always seems to help.

Hope you have a great week too, Lauren!

  12. It's like everyone is crazy at the moment and in a but of a blogging slump because of it. My life has been manic so I've just had no time and so many others have expressed similar feelings! My reading is next to nil, my blog wasn't touched for almost 3 weeks (😨😱) and I'm only just now getting around to visiting people and replying on comments. It's frankly ridiculous!

I hope you take that little break or cut back a bit and that it helps!

I'm very interested in Eliza so can't wait to hear what you thought of that! I really hope you are feeling better and that life is starting to feel more normal.

    Catch up soon!

    1. I'm starting to get back into reading a bit, but I have A LOT of blog stuff I need to catch up on eventually. I'm pretty sure I will be cutting back to 3 or 4 days a week instead of the usual 6. I think that will help a lot.

Eliza sounds like one I am really going to love so I can't wait to get to that one.

Life is still a little crazy so I'm probably still not completely back but I will be checking in a little more often.

Thanks, Di! Hope all is well with you!
