Life Lately:
I'm finally back!!  I took an almost 2 week break because I think I was suffering from a bit of blogger burnout.  I've decided to cut back on my blogging schedule a bit.  I was posting 6 days a week, so I am going to try to cut that back to 3 or 4 days a week.  I think that will help.  I've still been reading a bit, I just haven't been around my blog too much to do anything other than reply to comments here and there.  I'm a big slacker.  I'm going to try to start making my way around to other blogs today to catch up.

I will probably try to keep my ARC requests to a minimum since I've cut back on my posting schedule.  I can't say no to freebies tho!  I have a lot of old ARCs that I need to get to.  I'm still working on bringing up my NetGalley feedback ratio.

I just noticed that the free photo editing site I used (PicMonkey) is now charging a monthly fee for use of their site, so that really bums me out.  I will have to find another way to edit my pics.  I've used their site for years and I don't like change! lol  What do you all use??

I've been working my job now for 2 weeks and I love being back. (I used to work at this place before I had my daughter and they recently called me and asked me to come back for a few hours a week).  I get to make my own schedule and it's so nice to be able to see some of the same patients again.  I mostly work while my daughter is at preschool so it works out really nice.  My daughter is still loving preschool.  We have a field trip this week with her school to visit a farm for the fall festival.  It's going to be a lot of fun.

  1. Sometimes a break is good! I know I take them when I need and I had to cut down on posting myself because life. I hadn't realized Picmonkey charged now. I had always done the premium so I paid anyways but thought it was still free. That stinks. Glad work is good and your daughter still likes school Have a great week!

    1. Yeah, I definitely needed that break. I still don't feel like I am 100% over my funk but I think I can work with 3 to 4 posts a day. That seems much more do-able. I should probably just do the premium PicMonkey service. I did the free trial of it a while back and loved it so I might as well. Then I wouldn't have to learn a brand new service. Thanks, Grace! Hope you have a great week too!

  2. A blogger break sounds like just what you needed Julie, this was me a few months back too, but posting sporadically will definitely help! And I'm the same I'm trying to control my ARC pile and get my percentage up on netgalley, but when there's so many great books out how can one resist! I hope you have a great week Julie!

    1. I definitely needed that break. I still popped in once in a while but I didn't worry about everything quite as much. I think it would be much more manageable at 3 or 4 days a week. And I'm probably going to be reviewing less books. I was reading around 15-20 month so I think I could cut back on that too. Thanks, Jasprit! Hope you have a great week too!

  3. I needed a break last month too. I was consistently posting 3 days per week and that got overwhelming lol

I use Pickmonkey but I've been paying for their premium service for a while now. Canva has a free option I believe (with premium options) https://www.canva.com/

I looked around a bit but haven't used it yet. Several other bloggers had recommended it.

    1. Blogging does get really overwhelming sometimes. I can keep up with the reading and reviewing, but it was really getting hard to keep up with commenting on other people's blogs.

I'm probably going to have to go with the premium serivce on PicMonkey. That way I don't have to learn something new. lol! I don't like change!!

I've have had a few people mention Canva. Maybe I will check it out and see what it's like.

  4. I hope your new scheduling plans will help you with your blogging mojo. Cutting down my number of posts per week definitely helped me out and I think it will help you too. That's so awesome that you're back to work. I feel like everyone around me is going back to work! Nereyda is too. I hope things go smoothly for you.
Take care and have a great week ahead! :)

Oh! I have Photoshop for editing, but ocassionally I use Fotor and Canva online. I believe those are still free, but with premium options.

    1. Thanks Nick! I think cutting back is really going to help me too. I was just doing too much! I have really been enjoying being back at work. Gets me out of the house and a little extra spending money! lol Hope you have a great week too!

I am going to have to check out Canva. I've had a few people tell me to check it out now.

  5. I use the paid version of PicMonkey, as I have no other possible photo editing sites. Good luck!

Enjoy your week, and Love in a Snow Storm looks tempting.

    1. I may just end up going with the paid version of PicMonkey too. I really like how easy to understand everything is.

I'm saving Love in a Snow Storm for closer to Christmas. I stock up on holiday romances for that time of year. lol Hope you have a great week too!

  6. Try Canva (canva.com). It's my favorite other than picmonkey. It's free. Anyway, taking a break is good, Julie. Don't force yourself if you don't feel like it. I hope you enjoy these new great looking books of yours. I need to check them out. I'm a huge fan of freebies too. :)

    Have a wonderful week.

    1. Thanks so much! I'm going to check out Canva today and see if I can understand it. I'm so clueless. lol. I love PicMonkey because it was so easy to use. Gotta love those freebies! Hope you have a great week too!

  7. Ah darn it, I want to read No Quarter but apparently I missed it while it was free. I used to blog 5 or 6 days a week and then at some point this year cut back to 3 or 4, and it has definitely helped me. The only downside is what you kinda said, that I have so many reviews to be posted and just not enough days to fit them in the schedule so they're all backed up right now lol.

    1. Aww bummer!! Sorry you missed the free No Quarter book. I always end up missing the sales by a day or two. lol! I'm hoping cutting my blog posting schedule helps me a bit. 6 days a week is a lot of work! I was struggling to find time to comment on other people's blogs

  8. I can totally understand cutting back, Julie. I'm working at getting my ARCs read, as well. It's hard when you have to balance life and work. Nice that you have such a flexible schedule with a preschooler! Enjoy your freebies! :)

    1. It is really hard to find a happy medium with balancing everything. I'm sure I will eventually find a good routine but lately it just felt like chaos. lol! Thanks, Rachel!

    1. I definitely enjoyed my little break. It's nice to take them every once in a while. Especially when there seems to be so much going on at once. lol I just need to get into a routine and I will be fine

  10. Breaks are good, it's so easy to burn out. Blogging takes so much time. Glad you're finding a schedule that works. And freebies- yeah how can you turn those down? :)

    1. It does take a ton of time. That's one of the big reason that I think I am going to cut back on my posting schedule. Visit other blogs takes up a lot of time so I want to make time for that. And YES, to the freebies! lol

  11. Slack away, girl!! Us older bloggers, except Kim (Caffeinated, b/c she's a freak and we all know it) learned that 3-4 is good. Back about 4 years ago, we all tried to do 6 days a week but yeah, it gets really old, especially if you want to be a good blogger and make sure you get around. I'm so bad at that but my conscience eats at me all day if I don't get to it eventually.

I'm sorry PicMonkey is charging now. I only know of Canva and PicMonkey. I'm actually using the Adobe Creative Cloud and I pay the "education" rate of $29 a month for almost EVERYTHING in their arsenal. It includes 100 fonts, too. I have the design business so it's a right-off, but... I LOVE IT! But I've been using it for years.

Good luck... :) Oh, and how's the head?

    1. hahaha!! It was a nice little break. I just need to find a nice schedule so I have time for everything I need to do. Visiting other blogs takes up a lot of time so I feel like if I cut back on my posting schedule I will have more time for that.

I'm really bummed about the PicMonkey situation. I will have to check out Canva. Everyone has been talking about that one. That $29/month for you sounds great, especially if you can write it off and you use it a lot.

Thanks, Kristin! My head has been MUCH better. I really think that piercing helped a lot! I've also been exercising on a regular basis so that is supposed to help too!

  12. That's a bummer about Picmonkey. I've been using Canva for awhile now though, so hopefully that works for you? It's handy!

Right now I blog about five days a week (weekends off) but that's usually because I have so much to post--- my review books will go down more once I hit November, so we'll see!

    1. I am really bummed about PicMonkey and I am planning on checking out Canva since so many people have been recommending it to me. I am not tech savvy so I loved PicMonkey because it was so easy. lol

I also had a ton of reviews to fit in so I think that is why I burned myself out a bit. I had to schedule multiple reviews in one day to fit them into the schedule. I think I just try to do too much.

      Thanks, Lauren!

  13. I've also been in a blogging rut and it really sucks :( I think I was also posting too much!

If you're looking for free images, I HIGHLY recommend Pixaby and Pexels. Their images are amazing quality, and their sites are clean and easy to navigate.

Hope you have a lovely October, Julie :)

Thanks so much! I am definitely going to have to try out Canva! Hope you have a great October!

  14. Yay for no new review books! I wish I had your willpower. It can be tiring keeping up with a blog. Take a break and make adjustmets as needed and just have fun. Have a great week!

  15. I feel for you having blogger burnout, taking a break does help and reducing the schedule is a good idea, less posts means less pressure and you can then get excited for the posts which you put up. Catching up on posts after a break is always a pain, you realise all the extra work which goes into blogging. Good luck with the catch up.

I am on a little mental ARC ban because I am so behind with my requests and my own books lately. It's crazy how off schedule I've gotten, I'm usually so organised. Glad to see no new review books is working for you so far.

Yay for liking your job. It sounds like it's working perfectly for you so far, flexible hours and being able to work it around your daughter's preschool hours is great. Not all places do that for you.

As for what to use now picmonkey is charging... I know Canva is pretty decent but I don't know to be honest.

Hope you have a good week

  16. Hi Julie! Wow, it's quite incredible how hectic so many bloggers seem to be last month and now! I've heard so many stories of blogger burnout and also lots of people having to cut back just because of life schedules (myself included!). Last month for me was beyond chaotic so I'm still trying to catch up from that and I'm sooooo far behind when it comes to blog hopping and keeping up with my favourites. SORRY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wow - I'm so out of the loop right now! I didn't even realise that you were back at work!? And at your old job too with flex hours! That's amazing. I'm really glad that your little one is still enjoying preschool so much. My 3yo has been begging me to go to 'school' because she wants to play with other kids all day! :) If only school stayed that way right?

Pic sites I think I've heard people use Canva?

Hope you've been well and managing to catch up while at the same time take a break. :)
